Ep 65 – Is this it? Or is there more to life

By Shweta

I remember asking this question to myself at many momentous occasions in the past – “Is this it?” Is this all there is to life? When routines plateau, and general discontentment sits in our hearts and minds, this is a common question we encounter. What makes life beautiful and worth it every day?

I’ve always been a hard core fan of life. Don’t ask me what I knew about it as a kid, probably nothing. But I remember always feeling like there was a lot to life beyond our self-created sorrows, anxieties, and worries. We take things a bit too seriously. I don’t know what I sensed then but I always felt like humans had a tendency to overcomplicate in the minds. So I’ve always tried to keep it light and breezy. But somewhere as I grew up, I forgot the wisdom I’d carried effortlessly as a child. I took up everything seriously. Until I reached a point that I experienced joy and bliss only in a few moments of complete freedom during my travels and was more or less mechanical in every other aspect of my life. And, that’s when this question surfaced from the inner most core of my being “Is this it?”

The question shook me at first, but it has been one of the most profound moments in my self-transformation. Because the very nature of this question means you are beginning to wake up. It is the first step of awakening. Think about it, you’ll only question if this is it when somewhere deep down you know it is not it. The question marks the beginning of the next level of self-discovery in each one of us.

This question arises when we fall out of alignment – what I mean by that is when the lives we lead are not truly in alignment with what we believe/subconsciously know we must be doing with our lives. When we are not in touch with our true selves, when we get too attached and identified with worldly activities and pleasures. And needless to say, we cannot own our everyday when we are disconnected from our true selves.

So if you find yourself at the crossroads in life asking yourself this question, remember you’re on the right path. While discomfort follows such a question, it also means that clarity is not far away. Clarity about what aspect of your life needs a pivot? Clarity about what you need to do more of or less of to be more at peace within yourself is enroute. So stay in the discomfort and find the answers to what adds most meaning in your life.

Here are a few ways to navigate once the question arises in you:

  1. Isolate where this alignment is falling apart – Is it work? relationships? health? finances? spirituality? Where is the disconnect deep and wide.
  2. Can you visualize an alternate reality for yourself? One where this discontentment is reduced if not removed completely. Explore what feels right for you – what activity reduces this niggling sense of not enough
  3. Journal, Meditate, Reflect, and connect with your inner true self. Often we don’t need a specific answer but just a slower paced life where we are more in touch with our thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Journaling, meditating, and pausing to reflect can offer much needed solace.

If you’re curious to know more, I’m launching a 7-day 7 hours course called Satori – a glimpse of what could be. Spend one hour every morning with me for a week as we explore how a well-intentioned slow paced start to the our mornings can help us lead more aligned lives throughout the day. Launching soon, for more details DM me on social media or check out our website.

So your own your everyday tip is do not be afraid when the question Is this it comes up. Know that its the sign of more discoveries coming your way. Find ways to connect with yourself, deepen your awareness, observe your self through the various life experiences and move towards finding your way back home to your true self. It’s not easy, but it’s not impossible either.

This is Shwetha signing off hoping you have a fabulous week
